PEACEKEEPERS! Accepting Responsibility for Our Communities

Inspired by the theme of Saviours’ Day 2009 and the previous work of Brother Dennis Muhammad with the Peace Keepers, members of Muhammad Mosque organized a community event asking citizens of New Orleans to accept the responsibility to reform After the death of a two year old child who was murdered by his very own father, I reflected heavily on the theme of Saviours’ Day. I called Brother Dennis and we talked more about the condition of our community and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s instruction to us to get more involved in changing the current climate of our neighborhoods. All of this led to me writing an editorial that was printed in the local newspaper, which caught the attention of many and caused some controversy. In the editorial I stressed the need for our community, especially black males to accept the responsibility to produce the change we so badly desire,” stated Brother Willie Muhammad. The FOI of Muhammad’s Mosque #46 kicked off 2009 by teaming up with a Baton Rouge Hip Hop artist known as Brother Arthur “Silky Slim” Reed to spread the message of, “STOP THE KILLING!”

New Orleans is standing up! Brother Jesse got a chance to see how real the spirit of change is in The Crescent City about three weeks ago. On Saturday, March 28, he attended the ‘Yes We Care’ Stop the Killing Rally at Armstrong Park. It was spearheaded by Rev. John Raphael of New Hope Church, who is tired of the unceasing Black on Black violence–so he decided to put this in motion to forge change. Full Story…
